On 25 Feb 98 05:38:36, a Gin and Tonic at the Angler's Rest overheard

A single character isn't going to make your modem disconnect, and it won't
make Telix disconnect, either.
But a temporary loss of carrier may make your modem hang up. Basically,
register S10 contains the time your modem waits for a carrier to return
before disconnecting, in tenths of a second. The time actually waited is
the difference between the value in S9 and the value in S10. The values in
my modem are S9=6, S10=14, or 6/10 of a second.
