MM> A teacher who can cut through that handicap is worth the

Problem is, we don't have programs that pay like that. Top
teachers git a small bonus, if they get anything. Then the bonus
is usually a competive thing. The top teacher in the system gets
the bonus an everybody else gets zip. Sounds like motivation,
but it really isn't. If you have ten teachers, and have an
opportunity to hire ten top quality teachers, only one can get
the extra. Which means you get 1 top quality teacher, and the
rest go somewhere else, or into something else.

Yep. I used to think it wasn't a real problem, as the debt was a
fraction of the increased earnings. However, it's gotten worse,
and the job market may or may not provide a job that will pay
the debt once the student graduates. Depends on when he
graduates and where in the cycle it is.

In the meantime, the more they need the money to go to college
the more debt they have afterwards, keeping them in trouble
 along the way.

 Amen.
