While I agree with the sentiment expressed, a significant majority of those
on active service in the military do not.  Some years back a survey was done
(IIRC of Navy SEALS) that asked basically "Would you shoot Americans who
refused to give up their firearms when ordered to do so?"  Most replied 'yes.'

When somebody leaked the survey to the media - and it deservedly received a
lot of negative comment - the Pentagon brushed it off as an individual officer
doing research for an advanced degree.
