Hi Ed!
In your search for DTP support, check out the different echoes in FIDOnet
like MACDTP, LASERPUB, GRAPHICS, and my favorite, INK. If they are not
already available on your local BBS, ask your sysop to request them.
Getting your copy printed at a service bureau is very sensible. The
service bureau will usually have the latest software and best printers
available. Some places will be able to print right from your prepared disc
file, for the best definition possible in your finished product. Ask around
at different services and see which one you find easiest to work with.
One other thing, try to stay with similar computer platforms. If you
create your document on a Mac, try to use a Mac based service bureau. Send
PC created documents to a PC based service. Each platform and software
package has its own quirks and working with the people who know the quirks
can save you money and time. There are supposedly easy conversion programs,
but I've been bitten a couple of times and found it useful to be wary of
going cross platform.
Be seeing ya!
