I don't understand the question :-(

If the files are in the current directory there is no path info stored,
and so older versions of CSPLIT are happy. If the files have path info
stored then older versions of CSPLIT fail to extract them, the path info
is the cause of the problem.

The switch will be needed to enable (or suppress) storage of the path
info.
