I habitually wear sandals when travelling - "Jesus boots" or
"latten" as the Germans refer to them.

Just a sheet of leather and two straps.  They weigh about twenty grammes each.

They were X-rayed TWICE on my last visit to New York.  Then I was taken out
of the line for half an hour's questioning-
