If you actually read the report instead of listening to politicians spin on
it, you will see that the net results are very good for the northern global
forest area, which they have not counted into their equations. This global
ring of heavy forest accounts for 25% of the air cleaning on the planet
(the bulk is accounted for by the oceans).
I really fail to understand how they can make 100 year predictions without
accounting for additional growth in this massive forest area. But then
perhaps they weren't trying to be accurate, or maybe they are just too
close to see the forest thru the trees..
Suggestions for reducing global warming, promote replacing lawns with
trees. Give tax breaks for land owners who get rid of lawn mowers in favor
of planting evergreens for lawns. Add more moisture to jet fuel to create
more and longer lasting contrails. Stop pretending that adding alcohol to
gasoline helps, it actually makes 50% more greenhouse gas. Force trucks and
government vehicles and lawn mowers and weed eaters and construction
equipment and off road vehicles to adhere to the same standard that
passenger cars have to adhere to. Tax coal and oil burning power production
and use every dime of that tax to subsidize nuclear power generation.
None of this will address the issues of concrete cover, destruction of
forest areas or pollution of the oceans which are likely the biggest cause
of the increase in co2 levels but changes like this are likely to help
without causing too much pain. I would also suggest that finding ways to
increase the removal of co2 from air would be more acceptable than ways to
limit things that produce co2. Perhaps we should be trying to cause algae
blooms in the oceans?
