Lots & Lots have changed. Iraq (a neighbour to Saudi) is in flames.

Hezbollah (funded by Iran) has fought Israel to a standstill.

Oil is denominated in dollars & how could you buy the Saudi oil?

Hamas did very well out of the Mecca agreement as they should given they
won the election.

V. good PR to have your picture taken with the Saudi royals.

Elevated hamas no end.

If money is required to buy influence (e.g. by paying the salaries of
teachers, build hospitals etc) then....so be it.

The EU/US has created a money vacuum & nature abhors a vacuum.

So Iran & Saudi are stepping up to the plate esp as influence follows money.
