I meet some odd types who specialize in different "health areas"
e.g. transmissible diseases etc as large scale health IT systems have
obvious ramifications wrt rapid notification & epidemiology etc.

Anyway chatting to a bod who's specialist area is drugs (inc alcohol &
nicotine) & their effects on people (esp when seen as a
group/statistic).

Anyway to cut a long story short.....

I had no idea that crystal meth is now everywhere (inc the poorest parts of
the world (e.g. all over all of Africa)) & is taking over from lots of
other "hard" drugs (e.g. normal speed, coke & even heroin) as
the drug of choice (again all over).

His view is that oddly we may see the end of the drug wars wrt coke &
heroin partly coz no "special growing conditions" are required
i.e. it can be fabbed up anywhere. "Equator to the poles you can make
crystal" was one of the comments.

i.e. if you're a Burmese/Afghan opium dealer or a south american coke
dealer you finally have real competition where no drugs need to cross any
national border as every country makes it's own.....
