| subject: | ATM 14` ultrathin mirror |
From: "Stathis Kafalis" To: "ATM" Cc: "Gottschalk Gert" Reply-To: "Stathis Kafalis" I updated my webpages and included my experiences on making a 14" mirror out of a Schott Borofloat of 20 mm (0.8") thickness. If the pages should not work temporalily due to high trafic, try the mirror page http://www.hanf-poos.de//stathis/atm/index.htm. Any comments? Please let me know, if you see any spelling mistakes or bad English. Heaving made this mirror, I am wondering, if the limit could be pushed even fuhrter without discriminating optical performance. For example I noticed, that the 16" from Adrie http://home.planet.nl/~asuyker/nvws/frames/my_ultralight_dobsonian.htm is just 22 mm thick. Who else did such thin mirrors and what where the issues involved with it. Do this mirrors deliver really fine images, or is it a compromise between optical quality and weigth?
