I don't think this addresses the bigger problem - the unconscious problem
connected with the food-in/waste-out pattern of behavior, that is set up in
childhood.

My guess is this is the period  of the first two years
of life - a period where 
"the major brain structures essential for forming conscious (explicit) memories
are not functional"* - 
thus an unconscious motivator.

It's resolving that - not tinkering with genes - that will resolve weight
problems IMO. 

But more importantly it will resolve a layer of human
behavioral problems and health problems that are caused directly or indirectly
from unresolved conflicts of the
food-in/waste-out patterns of childhood. 
Mostly these are problems concerning breast feeding (food in) and toilet
training (Waste out).
