Hi, Will!
WS>... What is the "vintage" of this unit ...
Rat Shaque introduced it in the 1994 catalog (which was issued in the
fourth quarter of 1993) at $229.99:
                                        Stock Factory
100 channels in 10 banks Coverage (MHz): 29-54
        "30,000 frequencies" 108-174
        10-channel monitor bank 406-512
        Priority channel 806-823
        Lockout function 851-868
        Scan delay 896-956
        Memory backup circuitry
        Belt clip
        Back-lighted LCD display, blah-blah, etc.
Also, the ever-popular extra-cost Rat Shaque "requirements":
        6 AA or rechargeable batteries
        AC and/or DC adapter(s)
        Case
WS>... what is it worth on the market these days? It has no box,
WS>instructions, just the radio, a rubber duck, and wall-charger ...
I dunno, but you can get operator's and service manuals from Tandy.
WS>... I want to offer him a fair price, but am not sure what would be
WS>good, or an insult! ...
1a. What does he think it's worth?
1b. What does he want for it?
2. What has he been offered thus far?
3. Why is he selling it?
4. How much do you "really, really need it"?
5a. If he's a friend, you can't insult him with a low-ball.
5b. If he's a friend and he does get insulted with a low-ball, scratch
him out of your dialing directory. (Who needs a friend who can't
        take a joke, anyhow?)
6. Start at $50 cash and let him work you up until you don't "need it"
bad enuf to spend "that" amount.
Have fun and let us know what you (and he) decide on.
                                Best, Wm. of Research
