I too have an sc55mk2 & a jv1080 (and have run into you in other forums as I 
remember) 
anyway, as to the "best sounds"
its a question of the best of what type of sounds
and how well you understand the filters and features necessary to roll your 
own patches... and I must say that I've heard some wonderful sounds out of 
the humble sc55 that even after careful analysis, I have yet to achieve [let 
alone surpass] on the jv1080...
the jv1080 certainly benefits from more sounds, many of which are "better" 
and more effects and more bits to twiddle in sysex... but sometimes there is 
so much to learn, you never can quite master it all, and sometimes being 
limited in tools may mean learning them better... and it may lead to better 
sounds...
