Years ago musicians used a "box" to give some type of metallic sounding
distortion to their guitars.  I seem to recall it being called a "flanger".
 How did these things work?
        This subject comes up, because we (at the TV station where I work)
have begun having this effect show up on our headset intercom. We're trying   
     
to find it and fix it.
