AP>BN> AP>I liked your little essay. You're exactly right. Once
AP>BN> AP>Gene died, Berman and the rest of his stupid friends
AP>BN> AP>hijacked Star Trek. They say something to
AP>BN> Uh, Alan, hate to have to say it, but he's "exactly wrong."
AP>BN> It's very common knowledge that Gene personally
AP>BN> picked Berman as his protege'/successor, & that following
AP>BN> Season 2, he turned virtually all control of Trek over to
AP>BN> Berman. From then on, Gene had virtually nothing to do
AP>BN> with running the show at all, even in terms of final approval
AP>Yes, I know all about it. Of course Berman didn't change
AP>everything so quick. Gene would have taken his power away
AP>from him, the studio probably would hae let him do that too.
Nope, don't believe it for a second. }:) You see, the very reason
you cite is de facto proof that Gene & TPTB *were* happy with the
way Rick was handling it, changes or no changes. };)
If Gene truly did have creative control, he could have pulled it
back at any time right up until his death, since Berman was changing
the show the entire time. (It helps to have followed the background
for this during the time the show was developing; most folks who've
been here for bookoo years have been in the position to do that.
) Gene was totally, & I do mean *totally*, out of the loop,
having given full control to Berman. And if Paramount were unhappy
or dissatisfied with his handling of the franchise for even a
minute, even after Gene's death they could have replaced him in a
heartbeat since they own the franchise. They didn't. Someone who
truly does "know all about it" would know that.
