Hi Joe!
-> I guess I saw him in the early 70's at Cobo Hall in Detroit .. a room
-> not well known for it's acoustics...the same place I saw Hendrix when
-> he was still had The Experience band ... both shows were just
-> excellent, you could hear everything, although I must admit, that the
-> Hendrix show was probably the all time best show I have ever seen. I
-> had only been doing live sound for about a year or two at the time I
-> saw Hendrix. What I wouldn't have given to do a show with that
-> band.....
He came to Seattle in about '69, which was his home town, and did a
sold out concert in the Coliseum, totally destroying 21 Univox
amplifiers which I got stuck working on, and then the next day, he did a
benefit concert for the Garfield High School's music department with
the experience using a sound system that I built while working for
Kern's Music there during my late teens. Standing in front of the stage
was the way we did the mix at that time, so got a good deal of
"experience" on that show.. The jaw was dropped the entire time he was
on stage. Even though I got the chance to see the Beatles in Seattle in
'64 (had to drag my grandma along to get into the place that young!),
doing that show had to be one of THE highlights of my live sound career
still!
