SB> Probably. Of course we could create an inpenetrable fog on the
SB> Pacific coast line too.
A totally isolated North and South America? It might be interesting to
speculate how those two continents would have developed. (A comparison
might be some of the remote isolated jungle tribes that weren't known about
until fairly recent time.)
SB> Yep! I mean there are legal wars going on between states all the
SB> time. If they were *nations*, they would be more than legal wars.
Yep. Oregon and Washington have "legal" wars all the time. The real
"biggies" are: sales tax (none in Oregon so people try to avoid paying
tax on "big ticket" items by buying them in Oregon), cigarettes (_used_
to be less state cigarette tax in Oregon so people would "smuggle" them
across the border), automobile licensing (Washington's is _way_ higher so
Washingtonians license their cars in Oregon and then every once in awhile
Washington will make a "sweep" and nail all the scofflaws with a HEFTY
fine. This being Fourth of July time, the "biggie" is fireworks. The
exploding and aerial kinds are illegal in Oregon. The news broadcasts
have reported _thousands_ of people illegally smuggling contraband
fireworks over the border.
It's almost funny speculating a "border crossing" between the two. Just
think of the "black market" in "running" firecrackers across the Columbia
River in the dead of night!!
