That's a little like asking who the best Disney movie is--more than a
little subject to personal taste. But as some here have heard me say
before, my favorite time of year is the first two weeks of December.
It's the "off season" so rates are low, crowds are light, and you gotta
work pretty hard to get sunstroke.
In addition, all of the parks and resorts are decorated for Christmas.
The stuff goes up the day after Thanksgiving and stays until New Years,
but the week after Thanksgiving and the second half of December are mob
scenes (with "in-season" prices).
The downside? If you go for a wild and crazy party atmosphere, you may
find things a little *too* calm. When a major attraction needs
refurbishing, it's often (logically) done in winter when crowds are
down, but you can call ahead to see if your favorite is *scheduled* to
be closed and adjust plans accordingly.
Imagine getting your own boat to explore "Pirates of the Carribean", or
having the hotel swimming pool all to yourselves, or discussing the
fine points of riverboat operation with the engineer. All are possible
in the off-season.
Weather is rarely all that bad in Florida, and December is after the
worst of the hurricane season. Rain is not uncommon, but we've never
gotten wet enough on our three December visits to shell out for a set of
yellow Mickey Slickers.
Because my wife now works where she can't get time off between
Thanksgiving and New Years, we're tentatively planning a visit early
next January (2-9). If you're going that week, drop me a note--we'd just
