Russel is referring to STOMPER.
STOMPER is a program (or set of programs) that allows a modem to be made
a shared network resource. The latest shareware version I found
available was archived as ST305.ZIP and appeared on Diamond Vault 18
Shareware CD-ROM, but should be available on some BBS's and Internet sites
etc. A 32 bit Win 95 version was supposed to be available in Dec '95.

Here's some contacts from the files I got:-

One part of STOMPER is run on the computer whose modem one wants to become a
Network Modem, and then a Network fossil driver (NETFOS included with STOMPER)
is run on another (or the same) computer, and Any Windows, OS2?? or DOS
program that can use a fossil ie. Terminate, Telix etc can then use the
Network fossil and Networked Modem.

I've found it works really well making a GVC 28800 Modem on a remote
computer available to Terminate running locally, but the doc's are not very
clear, hence some instructions I've written, which I could Netmail to you
and/or any other interested parties (requests via Netmail or Internet email).
I have not looked at the Win95 version yet, but the doc's I've made should
still be fairly relevant.

The instructions included in the STOMPER archive needed, in my
opinion, clarification and there was not a full, detailed, step-by-step
instruction for MS Networks. Also I was very frustrated in understanding how
to implement the author's instructions, so I thought I'd offer this
assistance for setting up an otherwise excellent program.

The equipment I've used as a model is based specifically on our home
network and the reader will have to make changes to suit his particular
setup, but having said that, our network is of sufficient mix to provide
a good example for both Win 3.11 and Win 95 Operating Systems (or as in
our case a mix of both).

  Our Network comprises a 486sx25 8Meg RAM with a Dynalink 1414 VQM
Pocket external modem on COM1 (8250 UART) running Windows for Workgroups 3.11
with Network Interface Card (NIC) networked via coax to a second NIC in a
Pentium 100 16Meg RAM with GVC 28800 Modem on COM2 (16550 UART).
I wanted to be able to run my Comm's program Terminate v3.0 located in the
486, yet be able to switch back and forth from the Dynalink Modem to the GVC
Modem. Unfortunately the standard Microsoft Windows Network does not (to
my knowledge), in itself, support com port redirection.
