Hello Andy and listers,
I think that in a way that's our own fault just as much as it is that of
the general public.  for many years we've vigorously promoted the idea
that the way to success is to get that good job and all will be well.
However, as some folks in the Blind Entrumprenures meeting pointed out
that is no longer the case.  Add corporate down-sizing to the chronic
unemployment problem among the blind we have a prescription for more of
the same if something doesn't change, and that we in the FEderation don't
begin to promote the idea that the traditional job is not the only way to
wealth and success, etc.  I was glad that we formed this new division and
perhaps in the coming years we will be the ones doing the hiring and not
just the average employer who knows little if anything about the
capibillities of the blind.  Mary and i are glad that we can offer one
possible solution to this delema through our business.  I know it sounds
far fetched but if money weren't a problem wouldn't it be neat if when we
come together at some future convention we allshow up in our own private
jets pilotted by the best flight crew we can find, and we don't have to
get permission to sit in the exit row because we own the plane.  mOve over
FAA.  Iknow this sonunds unrealistic and all the rest of it, but the sad
truth is sis that it ispossible to do.
Well I hope we'll make it come true in the coming years.  Wouldn't it be
exciting if we had upwards of 10,000 attending our National Conventions in
the next century, and the number of blind persons that show up at our
state conventions are around 3000 and higher?  It can happen, and it is
not an impossibility.  Take care and let's keep the dream alive.  Mary and
I will be going to such a convention in September.  They are expecting
upwards of 60,000 dreamers there and we are exc ited about going.  One of
our other chapter members who is also an associate of ours is planning to
go too.  Takd care and let's dream big for ourselves and this
organization.
