Your original message implied that there was no service to St. Matthews
until recently. That is not correct. They used to sell the passes at
Waggener in the 1980's, and it stopped right outside the school. Like I
said, that is how many of the "bussed" kids got there.

There were also very well traveled routes down Westport Road, all day long,
and at least one route that covered Prospect in the 1990's. There was a
park-and-ride out in front of what used to be Winn-Dixie. My father road
one to his job downtown every day from one of those two locations from the
time we moved to Jefferson County in 1972 until his retirement in 1997.

Now, if they've been eliminated, I would not know that. As well traveled
as the Westport Road busses were then, I would initially be shocked that
they were gone. However, knowing that area and thinking about it some, it
is not as much of a surprise. As the jobs have moved out of downtown and
into office buildings in those areas, it may have become unprofitable to
have the busses running.

I cannot speak for why there are no busses to Norton Commons, but I have a
hard time believing that there was any conspiracy involoved in eliminating
the other routes to the East End. If they were profitable and/or as highly
used as they used to be, I am sure they'd still exist.
