And have a first and last name. A contract for more than one episode wouldn't hurt.
I see Jay's point however. Things don't happen to any Starship, even the
Enterprise, with the frequency we see on TV. And meanwhile, other ships
are having adventures too not just the Enterprise.
Yes sailors will believe in the renown or infamy of a name for as long as
Earthmen sail the seas or the stars. But "Fate" doesn't have it
out for any given ship. You don't have big "PC" and
"NPC" signs hanging on the various ships.
I see a role for Star Trek in Star Trek. It's a "true life" tri
dee program that promotes Starfleet the way something like Super Carrier
promoted the Navy. "Star Trek, these are the true stories of the
people and ships of the Federation Starfleet" In the case of In Trek
Star Trek you have the producers sifting through the logs of the entire
fleet and pulling the best and most interesting incidents to load on the PC
ship of the show. The logs are real, only the exact names and places have
been changed to make it more dramatic. One ship isn't really having all
those adventures. It is more spread out.
Once in a while, I would say once a season, Star Trek does a
"reality" show where they showcase a single ship and her crew. A
"Live on the Real Thing" where the stars of the show interview
real Starfleet personnel, tour the ship, and tell of that ships real
adventures.
Doubtless with cut scenes from the filmed version for drama. Time with
Hailey of the Harrier, Kirk of the Kongo, or Mantovanni of the heavy
frigate Liberty. Where the star goes "Gush, Gush" the Captain
does the expected "Awe gee shucks, we're just doing our job" and
of course no one believes it.
