MR> Some senseless babbling from David Calafrancesco to Mike Ruskai
 MR> on 07-27-97 05:15 about Server questions...
DC> I use a combination of SMTPD and Souper to
DC> feed .BAG files to GIGO for
DC> OS2 and thence directly to FastEcho2 for
 DC> maximus (squish format). All
DC> mys users are user.name@drakkar.mhv.net or
 DC> handle@drakkar.mhv.net. You
DC> already have everything you need except a
DC> domain name. As you can see,
DC> I save the domain registration fees by being a
DC> host node off my ISPs
 DC> domain.
MR> I'm still in the learning stages of Internet
MR> networking. So a SMTP server
MR> somewhere that receives a message destined for
 MR> drakkar.mhv.net will not
MR> find it in the DNS, so instead route it to mhv.net?
 MR> Would you not then
MR> have to be listed in your ISP's DNS?
MR> I'd like to get my own domain name regardless, but
 MR> the InterNIC procedures
MR> dictate that I get my ISP (@Home) to list me in
MR> their DNS before I can be
MR> listed in the root servers. @Home is dragging on the issue.
Take a look at http://www.dyndns.com ---through use of a small utility
invoked when you connect; it will assign a "name.dyndns.com"
to your dynamic IP address.........@ $25/year for their basic service it
sounds like a fairly good deal.
                                    IMHO, D.A.C. 1:365/3253
