Hi Bob,
I would prefer to use a field because a) it is much easier and quicker to 
create, and b) because users may need to change the document. I think they 
will understand what fields are and that they should not be erased... But if 
I use a macro, referring to a bookmark (where I want the date inserted), 
which is much less "visible" than a field, and the bookmark is removed by 
accident, then there will be cries of agony and no-one will understand why 
"it won't work anymore" :-(
