Hang in there Carl... I'll get to the point ASAP.  But, some History is
useful: my house burned down in FEB. Hd, backups, whole home office.  I
had been working on ANZI, an alternative ASCII set that replaces all of
those weird foreign letters and junk with geometric shapes to fill in a
stairstep edge of an ANSI logon, and some french curve line segments to
do decent diagonal and curved line art.
Before the fire, I had set up a macrobbs host just to try this all out.
The screens did not transfer correctly, and I suspect that I musta used
some of the control codes that a Host, mail tosser, or something didn't
like.  Is there a list of the codes that would be verboten in email?
I've been online since the 2400's came down to 200$.  1984? but haven't
ever tried to set up a host.  So I expected trouble with macrobbs.  The
trouble I got, was complicated by a 3 month old USR 288 that was dying,
which I could not beleive was crapping out, and line noise from a rural
location.
In any case, I found that installing a custom logon screen was OK, but,
trying to install a complete set of custom menu screens was not.  Other
bbs hosts that I found seemed to want to restrict the sysops to the set
of screens they supplied; although from what I can remember, there were
some BBSes I've logged onto that entertained users by changing ANSIes.
ANYHOW, I made a freeware demo of [ANZI-7.zip] screens that I will u/l,
or attach. 92k archive.  This freeware will act as free advertising for
a 12volt powered open architecture 486 that I originally designed for a
remote rural home like mine beyond the power lines.
