| subject: | Dicey Modem |
Dave, at 11:10 on Apr 24 1996, you wrote to Peter Collis... PC> I'm using the 'enhanced' code here and don't have any problems with PC> detecting the service tones. DH> No suprise. The USA unmodified code has no problems with the service DH> tones. But we knew that... Um, Dave, it does actually. Definitely exchange-dependant, but the most notable (and annoying) quirk is the US/Canada SDL's misinterpretation of Australian STD pips, which are seen by the modem as BUSY tones, causing it to drop carrier immediately, and redial. And believe me, if dialling unattended, those successive 12c connect fees soon add up to quite a healthy amount.
