Yes, my suspicion has also tyrned that way.

Well, anyway he wrote that he had checked the CP his reader/editor was
CP 437, but maybe the font is the culprit. OTOH, you don't have so much
choice of fonts in a DOS application. AFAIK there's no CP 437 in Windows
