I'm posting this on behalf of a gentleman who wishes to remain
anonymous:
*****QUOTE BEGINS HERE*****
In 1975, when I was thirteen, I was unpacking plates wrapped in old
newspaper after another of my family's frequent migrations. I started
reading an article about the Patricia Hearst kidnapping. I hadn't
come across the word "brainwashing" before, so when I saw it in print,
I asked my mother what it meant.
She slapped me several times, and then grabbed the cord to an electric
frying pan and started hitting me with it. All the while she was
screaming something unintelligible. I have visited this incident many
times in hypnosis, and I still don't know what she was shouting. I
was scared, then angry, and finally I punched her in the nose. She
dropped the cord and stood silently with blood dripping over her lips
and chin.
I didn't stick around to see the repercussions. I ran to my bedroom
and cried under my blankets. My next memory is of my mother cuddling
me, telling me everything is all right, but that I should never say
that word again.
She never apologized, and she never explained.
At the library, I learned the meaning of "brainwashing." The
librarian helped me look it up, and then kindly explained that a lot
of the soldiers coming home from Vietnam had been brainwashed by the
enemy. Brainwashing, then, was something that the enemy did.
Four years passed. My parents divorced; I was living with my mother.
My grandfather came that summer and took me camping for three days.
On the last day, he took me to see a man who claimed to have been
aboard a spaceship. He was still in communication with the aliens, he
said.
What he said next astounded me most of all: I had been with him on
several of those trips, only the government had brainwashed the
information out of me.
I now realize that he spoke the truth, and that this man was the
remarkable leader of the 39 souls who have just discarded their bodily
containers to be joined in the Kingdom of Heaven.

There is more to this message, pages and pages of it, and each page is
more bizarre than the next. I received it as e-mail yesterday, and
thought that it might amuse members of this newsgroup.
Cheers,
