The problem in this country is that the elections are rigged, you can
vote only for the "approved" candidates, which means one of the major
party candidates. If you don't like either of the major party candidates
you have no choice, IMO that's why most American citizens don't bother to
vote.
While it's true that one can write in the name of anyone one pleases on
the ballot, such write-ins don't have to be counted - at least in
presidential elections, thus sayeth the Supreme Court of the United
States when it ruled that (Hawaii's) not counting write-in votes for
president did not disenfranchise the voters who wrote in "unapproved"
names on the ballot. Logic and common sense were notably absent from the
decision.
