| subject: | Netscape 2.02 beta 0908 available |
Greetings Lewin! Saturday September 14 1996 12:38, Lewin Edwards wrote to All: LE> A very early possibly-escaped beta of Netscape/2 is available for FREQ LE> from my BBS. The filename is NS_0908.ZIP. I found it in hobbes as netscape.zip..it's also at Walnut Creek, with a slightly smaller (?) file size. LE> There are also some other problems, Some? How 'bout.. - crashes with SYS3175 when you try to save a boomark, - sometimes gives an 'exception error' if you try to start it without a TCP/IP session or dragging a *.html file to it, - sometimes messes up HTML into completely unreadable Web pages, then fixes them at random, - sometimes just crashes (not SIQ fix fixable) for no observable reason (just like the Win95 version!) and completely disrupts the WPS (like big grey windows that *must* stay in front - other windows and folders to the back, thank you!) LE> and not LE> all features are implemented yet. Yes..and some of the settings can't (or can't seem to be) changed. Things like animated GIFs are not very well implemented. *But* You get all the features of Netscape for Windoze, like multithreading (Yahoo!), Frames, animation etc etc. The multi-threading was the thing I was most interested in..It's much better to be able to click on a file and download it in the background without having to start a new copy of the browser (ala WebExplorer) to carry on browsing, or be able to click on a link before the page has finished loading. I'm running Warp v3.0 (fullpack) with FP22 and the usual TCP/IP fixes. I'd like to know when the 'newer' versions are released! Cheers, Mark [Team OS/2] ...
