My grandfather died from alzheimers and he was conscious and responded to
people being in the room. He just didn't know them.

The point I was trying to make is what is the difference between a brain
dead head on life support or a human arm on life support? Is there any? If
you were locked in a room with the arm, are you alone? If you are locked in
the room with a brain dead head, are you alone?

That's the best I can do to explain the point I'm trying to make. I don't
know what your answers to the above questions would be but if it made you
think then you at least are understanding the point.
