-=> From what I recall, Martin Ridgley said this to Lorne Murphy <=-
LM> I consider it the lost Yes album in the same way I consider _Voyage
LM> of the Acolyte_ to be the lost Genesis album.
MR> What's this? Is it an Anthony Phillips or Steve Hackett solo album
MR> or something?
It's Hackett's first solo album, (1975). He was actually the first
of the Genesis camp to do a solo album, during the time in between
_The Lamb_ and _A Trick of the Tail_. It features Collins and
Rutherford, as well as Percy Jones on "A Tower Struck Down". This
is easily my favorite Hackett album. Phenomenal songs, especially
"Ace of Wands" (classic Genesis sound) and the amazing "Shadow of
the Heirophant". (Stuart and Clark will disagree here, I think).
Anyway, it's basically the '75 - '77 Genesis minus Banks. Therefore
you can see how it is the lost Genesis album, similar to Squire's
_Fish out of Water_. In fact, _FooW_ and _VotA_ are among my
favorite albums of all time. Both of them are miles ahead of
several of the respective bands' albums! I'll take _VotA_ over any
Genesis album that is not in the _Nursery Cryme_ through _Wind and
Wuthering_ phase, and _FooW_ over any Yes album that is not in the
_The Yes Album_ through _Going for the One_ phase(s). :)
MR> For what it's worth, I've got Phillips _The Geese and the Ghost_
MR> (1977), plus Hackett's _Please Don't Touch_ (1978) and _Spectral
MR> Mornings_ (1979). I've also got all the Genesis albums from 1969 to
MR> 1980, but after _Duke_ the group did nothing for me.
_The Geese and the Ghost_ is nice, but probably not his best.
_Spectral Mornings_ is a good Hackett album. I don't have all of
their solo albums, but I do have:
Steve Hackett
Voyage of the Acolyte (1975)
Please Don't Touch (1978)
Spectral Mornings (1979)
Defector (1980)
Cured (1981)
Highly Strung (1983)
Bay of Kings (1983)
Till we Have Faces (1984)
Momentum (1988)
Anthony Phillips
The Geese and the Ghost (1977)
Wise after the Event (1978)
Private Parts and Pieces (1978)
Sides (1979)
Private Parts and Pieces II:Back to the Pavillion (1980)
1984 (1981)
Private Parts and Pieces IV: A Catch at the Tables (1984)
Private Parts and Pieces V: Twelve (1984)
I picked up Moraz Bruford _Music for Piano and Drums_ a couple of
days ago, on mint vinyl. It cost me 7 bucks, but I figured what the
hell, I had never even heard it. Quite nice, actually, I like it. It
was you who I was discussing this with, right?
