In G-Trek the Federation doesn't build "battleships" That is a
heavy frigate. A Manta class is a "heavy frigate", a Sovereign
is a "heavy frigate". We don't have any battleships over here.
In G-Trek the frigate is any ship with a more military mission.
Cruisers are the multifunction ships. A given hull type could be
configured as either. Nebulas often fall on either side of the
frigate/cruiser categories.
Incidentally a ship of the line was any ship considered strong enough to
stand in the line of battle. In the 18th and early 19th centuries that was
the third through first rate ships. Or anything over fifty-five guns. In
G-Trek although starships do not fight line abreast any ship from the
Excelsior on up would be considered a ship of the line.
