First thing to do is send it an AT&F&W - set it back to factory
defaults. It will work for you in this state but can then be improved on.
Things I would set are DTR hangup (AT&D2), CTS/RTS Flow Control
(AT&K3), Auto Reliable mode for MNP connections (AT&E2), auto
compressions mode (AT%C3), extended result codes (ATX5) and, if it behaves
like an M7F, set the originate speed to 14400 (ATB15).

These settings should let you fly along. Make sure you save these settings
to NVR (AT&W) and then init the modem with ATZ.

In your terminal program set your port speed to 38400, turn on CTS/RTS
handshaking (hardware flow control) and enable DTR hangup (hang up when DTR
line is pulled low).
