In Germany you get what you have to pay for a vehicle comparable to the one you
lost. I don't know about other countries.

Sure, but let's say you had it for about a year and the value dropped from
60,000 to 50,000. It's completely destroyed, you insurance pays the 50,000 of
remaining value and you either get a used one for that price or you already
thought of selling it and get a new one by adding a little money. There's no
real loss here, just a deductable of 500 EUR.
