RL> "just wrong"), you'll get parasitic oscillations. It started on Tom's
RL> Traynor when I modded it, but I fixed it by replacing the longer leads
n
RL> the preamp with shielded cable, with one end of the shields all tied to
RL> one ground point.
Exactly what does parasitic oscillation sound like?
RL> And you can still hear? ~8-)
Yeah. :) It's actually not that loud through a single 12 inch Fender
Special Design blueback speaker. I'm sure that I'll be knocking people over
with the 4x12, though. :)
RL> You've got it backwards... money is no object BEFORE you get G.A.S.
But with true GAS, do you know what you're spending until it's too
late? My dad-in-law just spent a grand on a Peavey 412MS and two Peavey PA
cabs and then wondered why. :)
RL> You checked the plate voltage on the Marshall?
No, but I assumed that if they got up that high, the higher gain
Marshalls were probably being hit with that much. This was a JCM 900. I
couldn't get any output distortion out of it at all. I had to crank the
output on my processor to get any sweetness out of the amp.
RL> Oh no... they were in my Carvin when I bought it from Tom. I liked them
RL> BETTER than the GTs that replaced them (seemed to have more gain
efore),
RL> but they are by far not the best.
I feel like I might as well just get some NOS tubes. :)
RL> Fender OEM tubes are relabelled Sovtek. They probably make the best NEW
RL> 12AX7 available. If you want to get into N.O.S., Telefunken is reputed
RL> to be the grail, if you can find them. NOS RCA and Sylvanias are good
RL> and readily available from AES for maybe $5.00 more than a new GT.
Well, I know I like the sound of the 30 year old RCAs in there. :) I'd
like to see what unused ones sound like. :)
