In Jay-trek The Ambassador class is still around, just slightly older,
slightly less amenable to up grades, a good dealless glamorous.

The Nebula and the Ambassador are the backbone general use cruisers for the
Federation.  When people say "A Starfleet Cruiser" a Nebula or an
Ambassador is what they think of.
