I just read an update on the USS San Francisco collision here:

In the article, it mentions that the quartermaster rating and the
electronics technician rating were merged a number of years ago. I imagine
Steve Ewing might have a comment about that. It seems like a really dumb
thing to do, as the articles author agrees.

It's quite possible that the sub may not go back into service, as the
damage is quite severe.

Seems a waste.
