In some places in this country, premeditated murder will get you a
sentence of 20 years to life, and you'll be out the prison gate in 15
years.
Unfortunately, this "most free country on earth" has more people in
prison, both in raw numbers and as a percentage of the population, than
any other country on the planet. So the prisons are overcrowded -
prisons are about the only growth industry in this country - and
eventually some judge will order that prisoners be released due to that
overcrowding.
