The Russian programmers are not as likely to avoid older DOS or
OS/2 source code as people here in the US seem to be. I am
expecting to see good things coming out of Russia. I already
like some of what I've seen such as RAR and the Volkov
Commander. :-) 

Persons in the US with the knowledge and ability to work on
FIDO code are, I think, burned out after a decade or more of
maintaining the code. It is almost impossible to introduce the
possibility of starting from the begining and many won't even
update existing code if they can avoid it.
