VA> The worst culprits in unbelieving are the Tax Auditors! Did you ever
VA> have to convince a Tax Auditor that your office expenses in a house are
VA> legitimate? If your office/study has beautiful wood cabinets (not the
VA> common metal), you have an antique table and comfortable chairs, they
VA> will say you have a 'family room'.
That ain't the half of it, Vija: some auditors are just plain
intimidated and jaded that they haven't an office (or `study') of their
own to compare, and so they do their darnest to take it out on those
that do...
Years back, I suffered a coupla of audits: what I did then was simply to
allow them the use of a "not so fancy" room as their work area. After
all, * I * needed my office to continue to work...so that I could
continue to _pay_ the SOBs !
Not many home workers have that kind of facility handy, but most I
betcha have a basement or some other spare room that they could offer
the Tax Man... Sit him (or her) right down immediately and explain that
you'll be co-operative BUT that the (home) office is _not_ available for
their work because you need it more than they do. If you want to be a
"really nice guy", then temporarily donate the coffee machine and a cup
from the office, after all, the kitchen is only a few (more) steps away.
Besides, doing this, you practically guarantee that the Tax Man will
stay out of the way... Hell, give that day-old bag of cookies too !
