Andrew is a pretty good guy. he did nothing out of the ordinary. the problem
is actually not just opus. as Binkleyterm is also crashing during
housekeeping. its this IDE drive/controller. My 8bit SCSI works better.
Increasing wait states on the AT bus slowes down I/O but it still goes
CRasho. again SCSI card has not crashed (yet). even at bus rates as high as
5mhz at 0 waitstates. this ide card loses its cookies at that rate. Since I
wrote that message I startted examining it from a hardware perspective.
Now if I only could get a 3rd SCSI HD up. then I would disable
the IDE drive. as is I am out of HD space on the Sci drives and unable to do
a full system backup as I don't have anough disks. It would take me over a
thousand to 360K disks to back this thing up. sigh. I lost my tape drive due
to a miswired power plug. A Iomega Zip or Jaz drive is in my future.
