Yes, there can be problems with anything but NOT doing anything because you have an incorrect view of how things work and why patches are needed just leads to more problems. I've said it here till I'm blue in the face but the folks who have resisted in performing updates because of irrational fears just create problems for the rest of us. But they continue to believe they're not part of the problem. I try not to get pissed off but it can be difficult. As soon as I heard that SP3 was available, I started installing. Yeah, I do like to be a first-adopter but the nay-sayers can use my experiences to make rational decisions based on fact, not fear. I don't have any AMD machines so I would have missed that (I wonder if there's a way to get some VM software to use an AMD CPU?). I do use Symantec AV software and it's working properly - prolly the version I'm using. > About the only thing I use the XP machine for these days is for the few > multimedia things that I can't seem to get working on Linux, and for > testing my BBS's telnet connection! ;-) Yet another way for the naysayers to move forward rather than being stuck in the reactionary past. While I agree completely that Linux desktop isn't as slick as it could be, it's far from being unusable. If these folks would put as much effort in making it work for them as they do whining and calling names, they'd be so much ahead of the ball instead of behind it that it wouldn't be funny. Jeez, Louise, just deal with it and move forward.
