I am also skeptical, but since my XP machine is not my primary, I went
ahead and let it install SP3.  Didn't seem to cause any issues, BUT from
the sticker on the front, it appears to be an Intel box.  I also read
something about AMD issues.
 
About the only thing I use the XP machine for these days is for the few
multimedia things that I can't seem to get working on Linux, and for
testing my BBS's telnet connection!  ;-)
