I've made some progress in resolving the SIGIOT in snprint (and others). It
seems that using the optimize feature of the later GCC revisions enables some
checking at compile time that isn't in non-optimized build stages.
I have corrected 90% or more of the aborts and have placed a snapshot of my
code for file request (or dowload if you're a user here).

NOTE: This is basically a source fork until the changes are incorporated into
the maintained source; which I hope is already happening as I sent the same
file to Michiel for his evaulation.
