TR> And nobody around here knows that I sometimes carry one in my pants
TR> pocket depending on where I'm going in the car. It really isn't safe in
TR> some areas out here, and a person my age is considered an easy target
TR> for a car hijacking or a robbery.

GS>What is car hijacking? Does someone enter on the passenger side or the
GS>backseat and tell you to go to a different country, like on a plane?
GS>Or is it a robbery of your car? Wouldn't your insurance policy cover that?

It is typically an attempt to grab your car and wallet. Sometimes the victim
gets hurt...even killed.

TR> they happen all the time.

GS>I can hardly imagine that. How much is that in incidents per 100,000
GS>residents per year?

Usually attempts occur either at a gas station when the victim has fueled up,
or in a parking lot at a large market while the victim is getting in or out of
their vehicle.

GS>Wouldn't it be less dangerous to just steal them with a tow truck?

Where do you live? You don't appear to be familiar with some aspects of
criminal behavior here in the US.

TR> I watch
TR> where I park, rarely go out in the car after dark, keep a shotgun near
TR> the door as I live in a rural area with few neighbors, and don't wander
TR> far from the house on foot.

GS>Sounds more like Afghanistan, Syria or the Ukraine.

I live very near the Mexican border area. Smugglers of people and drugs are
around all the time. You have to be alert. Illegal aliens come into the
country like confetti. They get deported, return, deported again, return
again, deported again......like a revolving door.

Just because this is America doesn't mean you're completely safe all the time.

TR> The nearest cop is about 40 minutes or more in response to a 911 call
TR> out here in this area.

GS>Which means law enforcement is non-existing.

They exist. They just don't pull up as you're hanging up the phone after
calling for them. It takes awhile for them to arrive. It's a big county.

It has about 70 miles of Pacific Ocean coastline from the Mexican border up to
Orange county. And from the Pacific Ocean inland to the Imperial County line
is close to 70 miles as well.

GS>But that makes me think of
GS>military strategies again and then it's all about firepower.

I'm a military veteran and fought in a war. I know how to take care of myself
and how to look out for my own safety.

GS>The firing
GS>side advances, the other side stays in the dugouts. Since you stated that
GS>criminals don't care about gun laws, they probably have some belt-fed
GS>machine guns and can legally buy truckloads of ammunition.

Belt-fed machine guns are rare and not usually the weapon of choice of street
criminals. typically they are armed with handguns or a semi-auto rifle.

GS>Then how does
GS>your shotgun help you?

You're right. I could just choose to be completely unarmed, helpless, and a
willing and ready `victim'. Just stand there and let some scum-sucker shoot me
and take my vehicle.

Thats the way `sheep' live. Are you a `sheep'? I'm not. I choose to be
prepared and take responsibility for my own safety.

`Victims' are usually people who are not expecting to be victimized. And,
typically, are not ready and/or willing to deal with it when and if they are.
