That is a very unrealistic philosophy that will never happen.  Criminals
will have them no matter what and, even when they don't, they will stab
you, blow you up, or run you over.

Folks in the US really don't want law-abiding people having guns.  Those
same folks would squawk if they had to give up their potentially-deadly
SUVs and vans, too.
