Hello Gerhard,
LL>> The majority of people want an end to all the violence that
LL>> is going on. Too many guns in the hands of too many people.
GS> Well, it's not too many people with guns, it's too many wrong ones.
There is dumb, and there is dumber.
LL>> The states have the right to have a "well regulated militia" -
LL>> with the people in those militias having the right to "keep and
LL>> bear Arms". But where does it say that all people throughout
LL>> the land have an absolute right to "keep and bear Arms" - with
LL>> no regulation of what kinds of arms they may own?
GS> The second amendment was made up around 1780, when a well-trained soldier
GS> could fire up to four rounds per minute, when it was still common to use
GS> swords for fighting and the fastest means of transport was a horse. I case
GS> of an invasion or a military coup, swords and muskets could just make
GS> scratches in the camouflage paint of the tanks. So, the current situation
GS> is a little obsoloete and the question is, which way to go. Does everyone
GS> need RPGs and guided ground to air missiles for self defense?
Only rich folks could afford to own muskets. And they were not
very accurate, the musketballs being round like a large pebble.
But at close quarters, they could be deadly.
"The Hornet's Nest" by Jimmy Carter is an excellent novel about
the Revolutionary War. Although it is a work of fiction, it is
well-researched. A very enjoyable read.
GS> Scratches on the paint will surely not make a tank driver turn around -
even
GS> if paint scratches are not covered by the insurance policy. :-)
I painted a car when I was a kid. An uncle (who was really a distant
cousin, but liked to think he was an uncle) gave me a paintbrush
and a can of paint, and me and my cousin went to town. His car came
out polka dot, various shades of blue.
