I was being picky about the suggestion that the word "evolution"
only refers to one species becoming another species. In fact, evolution is
about minuscule changes that occur in each generation, with, on average,
some changes leading to more offspring, while others lead to less.

So, evolution within a species happens continuously. It's only if groups
from a species become isolated from each other that evolution can proceed
so far that members from the two isolated groups (after maybe 100,000
generations) cannot (or will not) reproduce with each other. (The failure
to reproduce being the defining characteristic of a species.)
