That string should. It's generic enough. What do you mean by "won't
initialize the modem"? What response do you get, if any? You _are_ adding
an character at the end of the string (usually ^M), aren't you?
i.e. the string should read AT&F1&C1&D2E1V1W1X4^M
Try entering the string from the terminal, and pressing at the end.
The modem should respond with OK.
